Police chiefs have urged homeowners to be careful about what they post on social media sites, as burglars are increasingly using the sites to find targets.

Spokesman on burglary for the Association of Chief Police Officers Assistant Chief Constable Gareth Morgan told the Daily Telegraph they are aware of many individuals who trawl portals including Twitter to collect information about who is on holiday or may have items worth stealing.

“Users of social networking sites need to be aware of this and use caution when telling people where they are, or posting messages about valuables on their possession or in their homes,” he warned.

It is also a good idea to take extra precautions when going out to ensure opportunistic thieves do not strike, Detective Inspector Richard Monk from Nottinghamshire Police recently told the Nottingham Post. These can include closing all downstairs windows and tilting window blinds so that nobody can see inside.

Vision blinds are a great security feature. They limit the view to the inside during the day and give total privacy when closed at night.

Speak to your local Louvolite supplier about other blinds that will help you feel more secure in your home.
